Mililani junior quarterback Hunter Fujikawa has emerged as a leading prospect for the 2028 recruiting class, drawing significant attention from major university programmes across the United States. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, Fujikawa possesses a physical profile and arm talent that evaluators have tracked since his freshman year, with recent assessments highlighting his mobility and throwing mechanics.
Despite his rising status, Fujikawa’s recruitment is currently constrained by the logistical demands of his high school season. He has indicated that he will delay his commitment until next spring, citing a schedule packed with Saturday and late Friday night fixtures that prevents him from taking official game-day visits this autumn.
The schools currently recruiting Fujikawa most aggressively include Washington, Oregon, Ole Miss, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford, and Arizona State. Fujikawa has already conducted unofficial visits to a broad range of institutions, including Alabama, BYU, Cal, Florida, Ohio State, and SMU, allowing him to evaluate coaching staffs and facilities ahead of his final decision.
Specific interactions have already shaped his shortlist. Fujikawa spent time with Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and quarterback coach Bryan Ellis, noting the programme’s quarterback-friendly offensive structure. Similarly, he met with Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding and quarterback coach Joe Judge, describing the staff as welcoming and the environment as positive.
Oregon has also made a distinct impression on the recruit. Fujikawa described the offer as special, referencing a workout in January with coach Koa Ka’ai and noting the programme’s historical success in recruiting talent from Hawaii. Meanwhile, the University of Washington remains a childhood favourite for Fujikawa, a connection bolstered by the presence of former Mililani quarterback Treston McMillan on their roster.
While Fujikawa has not yet narrowed his options to a final list, his evaluation metrics remain strong. He tested well at the Under Armour Next Camp in Maui in July, where scouts noted his ability to throw on the move and change speeds effectively. His commitment timeline will likely shift as the season progresses, with the final decision expected in the spring.
