Microsoft drops Copilot Plus PC label for new Surface devices
The new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop meet the label’s requirements, but Microsoft is no longer calling them Copilot Plus PCs.
Microsoft has stopped using the Copilot Plus PC label for its new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, despite both devices meeting the brand’s system requirements, The Verge reports.
Microsoft Surface corporate vice-president Brett Ostrom told Windows Central: “These are not called Copilot Plus PCs.” The label was introduced for computers with built-in AI hardware.
Qualcomm senior vice-president Kedar Kondap said computers offering the same experiences will “probably” also move away from the branding. His comment signals a possible broader shift, but does not confirm that other manufacturers have adopted it.
The report does not establish that Microsoft has formally discontinued the brand. It also notes that the company is due to host an event on 7 October focused on local AI and the future of PCs.
