Mets topple MLB-leading Braves 7-5 as Bichette delivers career-high six RBIs
Bo Bichette’s grand slam and solo home run anchor Mets victory, while Braves starter Spencer Strider exits with arm soreness

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 7-5 on Friday night, extending the MLB-leading Braves’ losing streak to three consecutive games. Bo Bichette led the offensive charge for New York, hitting a grand slam and a solo home run to match a career-high six runs batted in. The victory marks a significant shift in momentum for the Mets, who overcame a strong start from Atlanta to secure the win.
Bichette’s performance began in the first inning with a 383-foot solo shot, followed by a 341-foot grand slam to right field in the second. His six RBIs matched his previous career high, last achieved on 4 August 2025 while playing for the Toronto Blue Jays. He also contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, highlighting his impact throughout the early stages of the contest.
Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider, who held a 4-2 record, exited the game in the fourth inning after allowing seven runs. Strider’s velocity dipped into the 87-88 mph range during his outing, and he issued a leadoff walk to MJ Melendez before leaving with right arm soreness. He struck out three batters in his limited appearance, marking a difficult start for Atlanta’s ace.
New York’s bullpen provided stability after starter Nolan McLean’s four-inning performance. McLean struck out six batters but walked four and threw 93 pitches, including 42 in the second inning. Cionel Perez earned the win after allowing one run in 1 1/3 innings, and Devin Williams secured his 10th save of the season by recording the final four outs. This was Williams’ first save of longer than three outs since 28 May 2023.
The Braves, who lead the National League East with a 45-24 record, saw contributions from Matt Olson, who homered, and RBI singles from Dominic Smith, Mike Yastrzemski, and Ozzie Albies. The game start was delayed by 76 minutes due to rain. Braves left-handed pitcher Martín Pérez is scheduled to start on Saturday, though the Mets have not yet announced their starter for the next matchup.
