PRESERVATION

First Lady Melania Trump has presented design and preservation work at the White House and Camp David as part of a broader effort to maintain the sites’ historical significance and connection to American national identity.

Speaking from the White House Rose Garden at the 2026 White House Historical Association Presidential Sites Summit, Trump described the White House as an “architectural autobiography” shaped by its design, objects and historic interiors.

She highlighted the restoration of Zuber wallpaper in the President’s Dining Room, saying the work revealed a piece of American history that had been concealed behind a wall treatment. She also referred to work involving historic floors, the President’s Elevator, the White House Bowling Alley and the Children’s Garden.

The White House said Trump’s design work included the Tennis Pavilion, which it said was approved by preservation, arts and planning bodies in 2018 and completed in 2020. According to the White House, the pavilion received the 2025 Palladio Award and the John Russell Pope Award.

The summit was described by the White House as bringing together more than 200 leaders from presidential sites nationwide as part of the America 250 celebration. The statement did not provide independent substantiation for the project descriptions, awards or attendance figure.
