McInnes looks to Ibrox support as Rangers face Celtic in cup quarter-final

Rangers manager Derek McInnes says the club’s supporters will be crucial when his side hosts Celtic in a Scottish League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on Sunday.

McInnes described the Old Firm knockout tie as an opportunity for Rangers to move closer to challenging for domestic trophies. His side has won four consecutive matches while rebuilding confidence after shortcomings in European qualification.

Rangers will be without captain Lawrence Shankland, who has suffered a hamstring tear and is reported to be out until the new year. Bojan Miovski has emerged as a key attacking option after scoring a 91st-minute winner against St Mirren.

McInnes, who has faced scrutiny early in the season, said Rangers must contain Celtic’s attacking players, including Colombian forward Camilo Durán, while becoming more decisive in front of goal.

The fixture begins a significant stretch between the clubs, with Rangers due to travel to Celtic Park next weekend for their first league meeting of the season. McInnes said recent performances suggested Rangers were capable of winning at Ibrox.
