Mbappé says 2026 could be his year for first Ballon d’Or

Kylian Mbappé believes his performances for France and Real Madrid have strengthened his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or for the first time.
As reported by Fox Sports, citing The Associated Press, Mbappé said he had “made history” in the World Cup and left the final decision to voters. The supplied report says he won a second consecutive World Cup Golden Boot with 10 goals and overtook Lionel Messi with 22 World Cup goals.
Mbappé also scored 42 goals in 44 matches for Real Madrid, although the Spanish club finished last season without a major trophy. He said playing for what he described as “the best club in the world” increased the association between Real Madrid players and the award.
The Ballon d’Or is scheduled to be presented in London on 26 October. Mbappé’s best previous finish was third in 2023.
Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal are also mentioned as candidates. Mbappé has not won the award and has expressed optimism about his prospects rather than claiming the result is assured.
