Michigan tight end Zack Marshall has apologised to teammates and coaches after social media messages attributed to him criticised first-year offensive coordinator Jason Beck and the team’s offensive scheme. The messages surfaced after Michigan lost 20–14 to Minnesota.

Marshall said he made “inappropriate comments” in the hours after the loss and regretted pointing fingers instead of taking accountability. He also apologised for the “unnecessary drama” caused by his comments.

The messages reportedly included a claim that Beck had told the tight ends none of them were valuable to the offence. That account, and the messages’ attribution to Marshall, have not been independently verified in the source material.

Michigan had lost its first two Big Ten games and was averaging 315.8 yards per game, according to Fox Sports. The report said the school had not immediately responded to a request for comment.

Marshall, a senior, had appeared in five games this season.
