Manchester United to receive €13m from Mason Greenwood’s transfer to Fenerbahce

Turkish club Fenerbahce have completed the signing of English forward Mason Greenwood from Marseille in a transaction valued at €39 million, plus additional bonuses. The deal marks the latest chapter in the 24-year-old’s career, which has seen him move through several European clubs since his departure from Old Trafford.

According to reporting by The Athletic, Manchester United are expected to receive approximately €13 million from the transfer. This payout is the result of a sell-on clause agreed upon when Greenwood moved to Marseille in 2024 for a fee of €31.6 million. The specific percentage of the clause was not detailed, but the estimated figure reflects the significant value generated by the player’s subsequent performances.

Greenwood made over 120 appearances for Manchester United following his competitive debut in March 2019. His time at the club was interrupted in 2022 when he was charged with attempted rape and assault. Greenwood denied the allegations and was subsequently cleared of all charges. Despite the legal outcome, Manchester United ruled out his return to the squad following public criticism, leading to a loan move to Spanish side Getafe for the 2023-24 season.

During his spell in Spain, Greenwood scored 10 goals in 36 appearances. He subsequently joined Marseille, where he recorded 48 goals and 17 assists in 81 senior appearances over the 2024-25 season. His consistent output in Ligue 1 contributed to the valuation that triggered the sell-on clause for his former employer.

Greenwood has not played for the England senior national team since making his debut in September 2020 at the age of 18. The transfer to Fenerbahce represents a new opportunity for the striker, while providing a financial return to Manchester United under the terms of the original agreement.
