Manchester United name 22-man squad for Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester United have confirmed a 22-member travelling party for their upcoming pre-season fixture against Paris Saint-Germain at Nya Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg on Saturday. The announcement provides the first clear view of manager Michael Carrick’s options as he prepares to face the defending Champions League winners, who defeated Arsenal in the final at Puskas Arena, Budapest, on 30 May 2026.

Summer recruits Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have been included in the squad, marking their first appearance with the club. The selection suggests Carrick intends to utilise a new midfield partnership against Luis Enrique’s side. Returning players from the post-World Cup break, including Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui, have also been named in the travelling party.

Despite the inclusion of new signings, several key figures are absent from the trip. Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens have been omitted due to minor illnesses and will remain at the Carrington training base. Both players are expected to join the squad for the subsequent training camp in the Republic of Ireland.

In a positional shift, Benjamin Sesko is absent from the squad, with Joshua Zirkzee selected in his place. The list also sees the inclusion of academy players Tyler Fletcher and Jack Fletcher, while JJ Gabriel misses out. Goalkeepers Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee, and Fred Heath are included, alongside a defensive line featuring Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Leny Yoro.

The match serves as a significant indicator of United’s standing against Europe’s elite ahead of their return to the Champions League. Following the fixture, the remaining World Cup stars, including Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, and Lisandro Martinez, are likely to rejoin training. The pre-season schedule continues with a match against Leeds at Dublin’s Croke Park next Wednesday, followed by a game against AC Milan in Wroclaw, Poland, on Saturday 15 August.
