Red Devils reportedly beat Atletico Madrid for Brazilian talent ahead of summer window

Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of finalising the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, according to a report by Fichajes cited by Yahoo Sports. The club is said to have outmanoeuvred Atletico Madrid in the race to secure the player during the current summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old is valued as a versatile box-to-box midfielder who can also operate as a number ten or defensive midfielder. He recorded three goals and two assists in 41 matches for Atalanta across all competitions last season, establishing himself as one of the top central midfielders in Serie A.

With his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2027, the move could present a cut-price opportunity for the Premier League club. The timing of the potential acquisition aligns with the end of the contract period, which may facilitate negotiations for a reduced fee.

Head coach Michael Carrick is expected to utilise Ederson to add depth and quality to the squad. The Brazilian’s profile, which includes strong tackling abilities and long-range striking, is viewed as a fit for the midfield department at Old Trafford.

However, questions remain regarding whether the player can successfully transition to the demands of the Premier League. Carrick is anticipated to provide the necessary time for Ederson to adjust to life in England before integrating him fully into the starting lineup.
