Premier League race tightens as City move within striking distance of leaders Arsenal

Manchester City reduced their deficit to Premier League leaders Arsenal to two points following a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. The result places City on 77 points, trailing Arsenal but holding a superior goal difference of plus-one, with two fixtures remaining in the title race.

Manager Pep Guardiola implemented six changes to the starting lineup, citing logistical fatigue and the need to manage player workload during a congested schedule. Key attackers including Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku were rested, while Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush scored in the first half to establish control. Phil Foden provided assists for both opening goals, and Savinho added a late strike to complete the scoreline.

The victory extends City’s unbeaten run in the league to 14 matches. However, Arsenal remain the overwhelming favourites to secure their first Premier League title since 2004. The Gunners must defeat Burnley on Monday to maintain their lead, while City face Bournemouth on Tuesday to keep their championship hopes viable.

John Stones made a substitute appearance during the match, receiving a reception from the crowd before departing the club at the end of the campaign. Foden emphasised the importance of squad depth, noting that winning titles requires the entire team to contribute as the season reaches its climax.

Both clubs face additional commitments in the coming days. Manchester City will contest the FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, while Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner prepares for his final match in charge, the UEFA Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig on May 27.
