Macron casts stronger Europe as part of democracy response
At a joint press conference in Madrid, the French president said investment in a stronger Europe was among his responses to what he called a crisis of democracy and the rise of “extremes”.
French President Emmanuel Macron met Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at Madrid’s Moncloa Palace on Wednesday, the second day of Macron’s two-day state visit to Spain. The leaders held a joint press conference.
Macron outlined approaches to what he described as a crisis of democracy and the rise of “extremes”, including investment in a stronger Europe.
The France 24 International report did not specify what policies or investments Macron proposed.
The visit began on Tuesday with a ceremonial welcome for Macron and his wife, Brigitte, at Madrid’s Royal Palace. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia received them alongside Sánchez.
