Lucid Climbs 12% for a Big Second-Day Recovery as CEO Directly Rebuts Bankruptcy and Take-Private Rumors
Chief executive takes personal stance on LinkedIn to counter take-private rumours

Lucid Motors shares rose 12% to $6.69 on Thursday, marking a second consecutive day of gains after Chief Executive Silvio Napoli personally denied circulating reports of bankruptcy or a take-private transaction. The rally follows a sharp decline earlier in the week when shares fell to $4.62 amid speculation, with Wednesday’s close at $5.95 already signalling a recovery from that low.

Napoli addressed the market directly via a LinkedIn post, describing the claims as “so far from the facts” and stating unequivocally that the board had not explored either scenario. He affirmed that outside advisers are not advising Lucid on a take-private transaction or bankruptcy, and reiterated that the company possesses sufficient liquidity to fund operations well into next year.

The move pushed the stock back above its 50-day moving average of $5.85 for the first time since the rumour cycle began. Napoli pledged a full strategic update during the earnings call on 4 August, a commitment that traders are viewing as a higher bar for legal and reputational risk compared to the company’s previous boilerplate statements.

Despite the recovery, volatility remains high due to concerns over cash burn, an 18% workforce reduction, and suspended 2026 production guidance. Lucid also faces securities class action exposure tied to a 29-day halt in Gravity SUV deliveries. Polymarket traders are currently pricing a 31% probability of a bankruptcy announcement before 2027, while the options chain shows a put/call ratio of 0.87.

The company’s liquidity position was bolstered by an $800 million draw from Ayar Third Investment Company in July, pushing total liquidity to roughly $4.7 billion. Strategic investors including General Motors, Uber Technologies, and the Saudi Public Investment Fund remain involved, with Uber serving as both a robotaxi partner and a strategic investor in the most recent capital raise.

Wall Street consensus remains cautious, with an average target price of $8.30 and eight of 12 ratings at Hold. Peer Rivian continues to trade as a stronger execution story, having reaffirmed 2026 production guidance and secured a $1 billion equity infusion from Volkswagen.

For investors, the period between now and the 4 August earnings call is likely to remain a battleground. Analysts suggest that a finish back above the 50-day moving average with heavy volume would strengthen the near-term outlook, while a fade back below $6 would validate sceptics who view the rally as a mechanical bounce.
