Chenin LLC files for Chapter 11 protection as coffee market pressures mount
The Bellevue operator of L’Experience Paris remains open while reorganising its finances. The filing covers one of the company’s four Washington locations.

Chenin LLC, operator of the L’Experience Paris cafe and bakery in Bellevue, Washington, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 31 August in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington.
The Bellevue cafe remains open as the company reorganises its finances. Estimated liabilities are between US$100,001 and US$1 million, according to court-related information cited in the Yahoo Finance report, which was originally published by TheStreet.
Chenin operates four locations in Washington, but the filing applies only to the Bellevue entity. Owner Julien Hervet said the business had historically been separate from the corporate structure governing the other locations and that the filing was intended to bring it into line with the broader organisation.
The filing comes as coffee and snack-shop operators face higher coffee-bean, labour and operating costs, intense competition and weaker discretionary spending. IBISWorld estimates the US coffee and snack-shop industry generated US$75.5 billion in revenue over the five years to 2026, while Technomic data cited by the Associated Press puts the number of chain coffee stores at more than 34,500.
The market has also seen major operators close underperforming sites, while some smaller chains and independent businesses have contracted or shut. The source does not provide Chenin LLC’s detailed debts, creditors, assets or restructuring plan, and it remains unclear whether the filing will affect the company’s other three Washington locations.
