Lucasfilm unveils Ahsoka season 2 trailer and Starfighter cast at D23
Grand Admiral Thrawn returns in the new season, while Ryan Gosling and co-stars are set for the theatrical release of Starfighter in 2027.
Lucasfilm has provided the first official look at the second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka during Disney’s D23 2026 event in Anaheim. The studio released the season’s inaugural trailer, confirming a premiere date of 20 January 2027. The footage presents a darker iteration of the franchise, highlighting Grand Admiral Thrawn as he threatens to reignite galactic conflict in the aftermath of the Empire’s collapse.
The trailer depicts Thrawn with blue skin and red eyes, maintaining a calm demeanour as he positions himself to thrust the galaxy back into large-scale war. This development follows the fall of the Imperial regime, setting the stage for the next chapter in the series’ narrative arc.
In a separate presentation segment, Ryan Gosling appeared on stage to promote the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter film. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on 28 May 2027. Gosling stars alongside a cast that includes Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, and Mia Goth.
Lucasfilm screened exclusive footage of Starfighter to the D23 audience, though the studio has not yet released the material online. While unverified clips have circulated on social media, their authenticity remains unconfirmed. The studio is expected to make the content available to the wider public as the release date approaches.
The announcements at D23 2026 also included updates from Marvel Studios and Square Enix. Marvel recently introduced the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an untitled film set for May 2028, following the introduction of Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
