LSU women’s basketball completes 2026-27 roster with Russian signing Anna Minaeva
The Tigers’ second international recruit arrives in the US as the squad prepares for a high-profile clash with UConn.
LSU women’s basketball has officially added 17-year-old Russian forward Anna Minaeva to its 2026-27 roster, head coach Kim Mulkey confirmed on Friday. Minaeva arrived in the United States on Thursday, completing the roster construction for the upcoming season.
The 6-5 forward becomes the team’s second international signing for the offseason, joining Spanish forward Noa Morro, who has been with the squad for much of the summer. Mulkey described the acquisition as the "final piece of the puzzle" for the 2026-27 campaign.
Minaeva brings professional experience from her home country, having played primarily for MBA Moscow-2, the second-tier squad in Russia. She also saw brief action with the top-flight team, averaging 5.6 points and four rebounds in 12 games.
Her addition addresses specific structural needs within the team’s post rotation. Mulkey’s system requires defensive stability and shot-blocking timing, areas where the team faced challenges last season. Minaeva is noted for her defensive positioning and ability to block shots without accumulating foul trouble.
Existing post players Kate Koval and Grace Knox provide veteran experience that may ease Minaeva’s transition. Their presence reduces the immediate pressure on the 17-year-old to adapt quickly, allowing her to integrate into the offensive system, particularly in screen-and-pop situations.
The Tigers are scheduled to face UConn in Nashville as they begin their season preparations. The signing marks a strategic move to reinforce the low block with size and defensive versatility ahead of the competitive schedule.
