Seventh-ranked LSU’s visit to No. 8 Ole Miss is the headline matchup in CBS Sports’ preview of eight major Week 3 college football games, with the contest framed around Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford.

LSU are listed as 3.5-point favourites. CBS Sports analysts Chris Hummer and Brad Crawford both selected the Tigers to win, but Hummer projected a 27–24 result while Crawford forecast a 34–27 LSU victory.

Hummer’s assessment focused on the contrast between LSU’s pass rush and Ole Miss’ offensive line, as well as concerns over the Rebels’ secondary. He identified LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt as capable of managing the Oxford environment, while describing Trinidad Chambliss as Ole Miss’ best player.

Crawford reduced the matchup to LSU’s defence against Ole Miss’ offence. He said LSU’s secondary remained a focus for Pete Golding, while Ole Miss coach Kiffin was seeking to limit surrendered possessions. The analysis placed significant pressure on the home side despite the occasion surrounding Kiffin’s return.

The other games in the CBS Sports preview are SMU-Louisville, Houston-Texas Tech, Florida-Auburn, Alabama-Florida State, Notre Dame-Michigan State, South Carolina-Mississippi State and Miami-Wake Forest. Crawford entered the week with a stated 14–1 straight-up record, compared with Hummer’s 12–3 record; both records and the listed betting lines are tied to the cited Week 3 context.
