Liverpool confirm departures of Bonner and Evans ahead of Arsenal fixture

Liverpool Football Club has confirmed that defenders Gemma Bonner and Gemma Evans will depart the club when their contracts expire this summer. The announcement was made via an official press release issued by the club, marking the end of significant tenures for both players within the Women’s Super League (WSL) setup.

Bonner, aged 34, is concluding her second spell with the Reds. She initially represented the club between 2012 and 2018, a period during which she secured back-to-back WSL titles. Upon returning in 2023, she added to her legacy, bringing her total appearance count for Liverpool in all competitions to 186.

Evans joined the squad in the summer of 2024 and has made 38 appearances for the club in all competitions since her arrival. Her departure follows a single season of service at Anfield, where she contributed to the defensive line during the current campaign.

Head coach Gareth Taylor highlighted the professionalism and service provided by both defenders. He described Bonner as a "fantastic servant" and a "real ambassador" both on and off the pitch, noting that her contribution to the club is a source of pride for the organisation.

Regarding Evans, Taylor emphasised her role in the dressing room, describing her as a "top-class girl" who brings maturity and experience to the team. He noted that while her tenure differs from Bonner’s, she has been a positive influence and is well-regarded by teammates.
