Lewis-Clark State and Washington State Baseball Teams Enter Postseason Play
The Lewis-Clark State Warriors host Tennessee Wesleyan in Lewiston, while the Washington State Cougars prepare for their first postseason appearance since 2010 in Arizona, marking significant milestones for both institutions.

The 69th annual Avista NAIA World Series has commenced in Lewiston, Idaho, with the Lewis-Clark State Warriors making their return to the national stage after a two-year absence. As the third seed, the home team is scheduled to face the eighth-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday evening at Ed Cheff Stadium. The tournament, which draws competitors from across the NAIA, runs continuously through the following week, with a conclusion expected on Friday, May 29, or Saturday, May 30, should additional games be required.
The Warriors’ qualification follows a strategic shift in leadership, with the college reinstating former head coach Jeremiah Robbins. Robbins previously guided the program to three consecutive national championships from 2015 to 2017, a period during which his squads appeared in the national championship game in five of his six years. Under his direction, Lewis-Clark State has assembled a roster featuring a pitching staff described as among the most complete in the NAIA, alongside an offense highlighted by heavy hitters.
Concurrently in Arizona, the Washington State Cougars have secured a berth in the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Mesa. This marks the program’s first postseason appearance since 2010, ending a 16-year drought that saw multiple coaching changes and the program’s transition following the collapse of the Pac-12 Conference. Washington State enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with an overall record of 27-25 and a 15-9 mark in Mountain West play.
Washington State head coach Nathan Choate, in his third year at the helm, navigated the institutional transition to the Mountain West Conference to reach this point. The Cougars are set to play the winner of the Thursday match between Air Force and UNLV at 6:05 p.m. on Friday. A victory in the opening round would advance Washington State toward an NCAA Regional, a significant step for a program that has struggled to qualify for recently introduced conference tournament structures.
Other regional programs are also reporting notable performance metrics during this period. Gonzaga baseball holds a 22-5 record in the West Coast Conference, representing the best conference standing in the program’s history. The NAIA World Series also features top-ranked Taylor University, series regular Georgia Gwinnett College, and reigning national runner-up Southeastern University, underscoring the competitive depth of the national field.
