Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly established a minimum transfer fee of €50 million for centre-back Edmond Tapsoba, according to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur. The German outlet Fussballdaten reports that Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur are maintaining close contact with the 27-year-old’s representatives.
While the German club prefers to retain the player, the reported fee would reportedly convince Leverkusen to open negotiations. Tapsoba, a Burkina Faso international, signed a contract extension with the club until 2031 in April, placing the club in a strong position regarding any potential transfer discussions.
The interest from the Premier League clubs comes despite Leverkusen’s desire to keep the defender. Konur’s reporting indicates that while the clubs are in contact with the player’s team, it remains unclear if formal bids have been submitted or if negotiations have officially commenced.
Tapsoba originally joined Leverkusen from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in January 2020 for approximately €20 million. His current valuation represents a significant increase on the initial transfer fee, reflecting his development and the club’s leverage following his recent contract extension.
The report coincides with Manchester United’s recent 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in Wroclaw. The result has drawn attention to the club’s defensive options ahead of their Premier League opener, though the connection to the Tapsoba speculation remains unconfirmed by official club statements.
