Leeds move third after Newcastle defeat ends Jaissle’s unbeaten start

Leeds United moved into third place in the Premier League after defeating Newcastle United 4-1 at Elland Road on Monday, according to Al Jazeera.

A reported Lewis Miley own goal opened the scoring before Jayden Bogle doubled Leeds’ advantage. Dominic Calvert-Lewin then extended the lead, scoring in his fifth consecutive league match at Elland Road, with Noah Okafor adding a fourth before the hour mark.

Bazoumana Toure scored a late consolation for Newcastle, but the result had already secured Leeds’ position behind defending champions Arsenal and Manchester City.

The defeat was Jaissle’s first since taking charge of Newcastle. Newcastle remain on five points and reportedly dropped to 12th on goal difference.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke described his side’s performance as showing “energy, quality and good structure in and without possession”. Jaissle said Newcastle had faced a difficult challenge and described the defeat as “tough”.
