Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson has announced his immediate retirement from the NFL, saying he needs to focus on his mental health.

The announcement, reported by CBS Sports, came two days after Johnson was inactive for Philadelphia’s Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams, a 24–20 loss. The team listed him as absent for personal reasons and did not provide further details.

Johnson spent his NFL career with the Eagles after the club selected him fourth overall in 2013. CBS Sports describes him as a six-time Pro Bowler, five-time All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion.

Johnson had said in August that 2026 would likely be his final season. His retirement announcement brings that career to an immediate close.
