Landslides reported in Kagoshima as authorities verify heavy rain impact
Local officials in Kagoshima Prefecture are assessing damage following reports of landslides linked to a developing linear precipitation band.

Authorities in Ichikikushikino City, located in Kagoshima Prefecture, have received two separate reports of landslides attributed to heavy rainfall. According to NHK News Japan, municipal officials are currently in the process of verifying the specific details and extent of these incidents.
As of the latest update, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or casualties resulting from the landslides. However, officials caution that the situation remains under active investigation, and the full scope of potential structural damage or delayed injuries has not yet been determined.
The weather conditions precipitating these events have been closely monitored by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). A linear precipitation band, known as a linea, has developed over the Satsuma region of Kagoshima. These meteorological formations are characterised by intense, localized heavy rainfall, which significantly elevates the risk of landslides and flooding in mountainous and hilly areas.
Ichikikushikino City is situated within the broader Kyushu region, which has faced varying weather challenges in recent weeks. Previous forecasts had highlighted concerns regarding heavy rain across Kyushu, as well as severe heat and typhoon activity affecting other parts of Japan. The current focus, however, remains on the immediate impact of the heavy rain in Kagoshima.
While the two landslide reports in Ichikikushikino are distinct from other weather alerts in the wider Satsuma region, the presence of the linear precipitation band indicates a continued risk for severe weather. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as verification efforts continue and to monitor official disaster preparedness information.
