Kohli’s 15,000-run milestone anchors India’s win over West Indies
Virat Kohli made 139 not out as India chased 296 to win by eight wickets and take a 1–0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Virat Kohli became the second batter, after Sachin Tendulkar, to reach 15,000 runs in men’s one-day international cricket as India beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the series opener.
Kohli scored 139 not out from 88 balls and Shubman Gill made 110 as India reached the target of 296 with 50 balls remaining. The result gives India a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.
Gill and Rohit Sharma put on 74 for the opening wicket before Sharma was dismissed. Kohli joined Gill at number three, and their 151-run partnership put India firmly on course. Gill’s century was his 10th in ODIs.
The West Indies made 295 after opening batters Justin Greaves and John Campbell added 135. Greaves scored his first ODI century, while Amir Jangoo’s 58 helped the visitors recover after losing four wickets for 22 runs.
Al Jazeera reported that Kohli plans to retire from national duty after next year’s 50-over World Cup. He has retired from Test and T20 international cricket and now represents India only in ODIs, according to the report.
