Kohli says 2027 World Cup will be his last for India
The former India captain says he is motivated to help the team win the tournament, scheduled across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Virat Kohli has said the 2027 50-over World Cup will be his last for India, while leaving open his plans for ODI cricket after the tournament.
“I’m ready to give my all to help lift the trophy,” Kohli told broadcaster JioStar. He said winning the World Cup was his goal and that he was prepared to do what it takes.
The October–November tournament, jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, would be Kohli’s fifth ODI World Cup. He has scored 54 ODI centuries and 14,941 runs, second only to Sachin Tendulkar’s 18,426.
Kohli, 37, has retired from Test and T20 international cricket and now represents India only in ODIs. He won the World Cup in 2011; India lost the 2023 final to Australia.
He described the intensity of a 50-over World Cup and playing in foreign conditions as demanding. Kohli and Rohit Sharma are both in India’s squad for a three-match ODI series against West Indies, which begins in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
