Knox College appoints Pablo Arriaga as men’s soccer head coach
Vice President of Athletics Justin Newell cites recruiting record and student-athlete development as key factors in hiring Arriaga, who arrives from Wheaton College to lead the Midwest Conference team.
Knox College has appointed Pablo Arriaga as the new head coach of the Prairie Fire men’s soccer team, effective immediately. The appointment follows an unexpected leadership transition within the program after former coach Tyler Sheikh departed to return to his home state of Connecticut. Arriaga begins his duties ahead of the upcoming season, tasked with stabilising the programme following the search committee’s review.
Vice President and Director of Athletics Justin Newell stated that Arriaga was selected for his recruiting track record and commitment to student-athlete growth. Newell noted that while the timing of the transition was unforeseen, it provided an opportunity to identify a leader aligned with the college’s long-term objectives. The search committee highlighted Arriaga’s reputation as a recruiter and developer, as well as his understanding of the competitive landscape within the Midwest.
Arriaga brings recent experience as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Wheaton College. His coaching portfolio also includes roles at Elmhurst and Greenville, where he contributed to programmes emphasising recruiting and team culture. These positions helped establish him as an emerging coach in the region, with a focus on player development and strengthening team performance.
A graduate of Vanguard University, Arriaga played collegiate soccer for four years before earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. He cited Knox’s soccer history and institutional values as influential factors in his decision to accept the role. Arriaga expressed enthusiasm for building on the foundation established at the college and outlined his intent to connect with players, alumni, and recruits as the team competes in the Midwest Conference.
The appointment marks a significant administrative change for the Prairie Fire. Arriaga’s immediate start date underscores the college’s priority to maintain continuity in coaching leadership as the team prepares for the season. The search process concluded with Arriaga identified as the clear choice to lead the programme forward.
