The Vegas Golden Knights have positioned themselves on the brink of the Stanley Cup Final after a dramatic comeback victory against the Colorado Avalanche. Playing at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday, the Knights overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Avalanche 5-3 in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final, securing a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The turnaround began in the third period when centre Tomas Hertl broke the tie at 8:21, ending a first period where Colorado had dominated. The momentum shifted further with contributions from captain Mark Stone, who returned from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury. Stone scored a power-play goal and recorded the primary assist on Hertl’s goal, while William Karlsson and Keegan Kolesar added second-period goals. Mitch Marner contributed two assists, and goaltender Carter Hart made 29 saves to secure the win.

The victory places significant pressure on the Avalanche, who were the top team in the league during the regular season. Historically, the odds have been heavily stacked against teams trailing by three goals in the playoffs; the Avalanche were 74-1 all-time in such situations, while the Knights had previously faced a 0-19 record in similar deficits. Colorado also held a 52-0 record when leading by multiple goals at any point during the regular season, making Sunday’s collapse statistically unprecedented.

Vegas had previously established control of the series by winning Games 1 and 2 at Ball Arena in Denver. The Knights are now one victory away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in their nine-year history. The absence of Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar, sidelined by injury, has further complicated Colorado’s efforts to mount a recovery in the series.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena, where the Knights will look to close out the series and secure their place in the championship round.
