Buckingham Palace has confirmed the schedule will proceed as planned, maintaining the diplomatic calendar despite heightened security concerns following a recent shooting incident at a White House dinner attended by President Donald Trump.
The visit occurs against a backdrop of strained US-UK relations, characterised by public differences over President Trump's war on Iran, trade disputes concerning Britain's digital services tax, and disagreements over NATO commitments. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has criticised the war on Iran and refused to join a military operation to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, offering instead to assist in securing the strait once it is open. Economically, trade disputes have resurfaced, particularly regarding the digital services tax, with Washington warning it could respond with tariffs.
Analysts describe the royal tour as a symbolic effort to stabilise relations through ceremony and historical continuity, a strategy described as "crisis management through ceremony."
