Kalshi integrates Nasdaq surveillance to bolster regulatory oversight of prediction markets
The CFTC maintains its position as the sole regulatory body for such markets, while Kalshi expands its operational framework with major financial infrastructure partners.

Prediction market platform Kalshi has announced a strategic partnership with Nasdaq Market Surveillance, a move designed to enhance security protocols and monitor trading activity across its operations. The integration aims to introduce a layer of institutional oversight to a platform that has expanded its reach into major American sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, and MLB.
Nasdaq Market Surveillance is a system currently utilised by over 50 exchanges and 20 international regulators. By adopting this technology, Kalshi intends to strengthen its existing measures against insider trading and market manipulation, which already include mandatory background checks for users. The partnership represents a significant step in aligning the prediction market sector with established financial surveillance standards.
The platform, which served as the official prediction market for the 2026 World Cup, continues to operate across all 50 US states. However, this national presence exists despite facing varying legal hurdles at the state level. While Kalshi maintains its footprint nationwide, certain markets may remain unavailable in jurisdictions where specific legal roadblocks persist.
Industry observers note that while the partnership is unlikely to sway state regulators directly, it may provide Kalshi with additional momentum in its ongoing efforts to legitimise its business model. The integration of Nasdaq’s technology signals an effort to distance the platform from unregulated betting environments by adopting infrastructure typically associated with traditional financial markets.
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) also utilises Nasdaq Market Surveillance and continues to stress that it is the only body capable of providing oversight and regulation for prediction markets. This stance underscores the complex regulatory landscape in which Kalshi operates, balancing federal oversight with a fragmented state-by-state legal environment.
Kalshi’s sports betting portfolio covers a broad spectrum of events, ranging from championship outcomes for the upcoming NFL and NBA seasons to daily results for MLB and WNBA games. The platform also offers specialised markets for individual player achievements, such as MVP awards, and in-game metrics including pitcher strikeouts and team scoring trends.
