Portugal coach Jorge Jesus has denied a rift with captain Cristiano Ronaldo after he was left out of the 2–1 win over Norway. Jesus said Ronaldo had been told he would not start and that he later chose not to bring him on.

Ronaldo went to the changing rooms after the match rather than joining teammates as they greeted visiting fans, prompting reports that he was unhappy with the coach. Jesus said there had been no incident, while acknowledging that a player who warms up but does not come on may be unhappy.

Jesus also rejected claims Ronaldo refused to train on Tuesday. He said the forward completed individual mobility and strengthening exercises and was expected to train normally on Wednesday.

Gonçalo Ramos, who scored against Norway, is set to start against Denmark if plans go as expected, Jesus said. Ronaldo would be available from the bench if needed.

Portuguese media reported that Ronaldo left Parken stadium with two backroom staff members and that his private jet was heading to Copenhagen. The supplied account does not establish why he left.
