Jeremiah Smith breaks Ohio State career receiving record
A 23-yard reception against Kent State took Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith past Michael Jenkins’ longstanding mark of 2,898 career receiving yards.
Jeremiah Smith became Ohio State’s all-time career receiving-yards leader during Saturday’s game against Kent State, extending a rapid rise through the Buckeyes’ record book.
Smith set the mark with a 23-yard catch from quarterback Julian Sayin, with 8:03 remaining in the first quarter. The reception took him past Michael Jenkins’ previous record of 2,898 yards.
Jenkins’ record had stood for nearly two decades. Smith reached the milestone in his 32nd game for Ohio State.
The achievement adds to a collegiate career that includes a national championship, unanimous All-American honours and two Big Ten Receiver of the Year awards. Smith helped Ohio State claim a national title as a freshman.
He entered the Kent State game averaging 157.5 receiving yards per game across Ohio State’s first two contests. His record-breaking catch marks the latest milestone in a career that still has time to add to the school’s receiving records.
