Japan Meteorological Agency confirms rainy season begins in Kanto, Koshinetsu, and Tokai
The Japan Meteorological Agency declared the start of the tsuyu for three major regions on June 7, with forecasts predicting continued cloudy and rainy conditions for the week ahead.

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on June 7 at 11:00 that the Kanto, Koshinetsu, and Tokai regions have entered the rainy season. The declaration was issued following a period of cloudy and rainy weather across these areas, which the agency attributed to the influence of low-pressure systems and frontal boundaries.
According to the agency’s assessment, the weather conditions in the affected regions are consistent with the onset of the tsuyu. The JMA stated that cloudy and rainy days are expected to persist for the following week, maintaining the wet pattern established by the current atmospheric systems.
This announcement marks the latest step in the sequential progression of the rainy season across Japan. Previously, the Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that northern Kyushu, the Chugoku region, and the Kinki region had entered the rainy season on June 4. The staggered timeline reflects the typical northward movement of the front as the season advances.
The JMA’s declaration is a meteorological forecast rather than an absolute physical state. The agency uses the phrase “thought to have entered” to indicate that the timing and intensity of the rainy season remain subject to change based on evolving weather patterns.
Residents in the Kanto, Koshinetsu, and Tokai regions are advised to prepare for continued wet weather. The agency’s forecasts suggest that the prevalence of cloudy and rainy days will dominate the immediate outlook for the coming seven days.
