The challenge is compounded by current market positioning. According to Fox Sports, the Jaguars are currently unfavoured by oddsmakers to win their division against the Houston Texans. This external scepticism stands in contrast to the team’s internal metrics, particularly their dominant performance in the latter stages of the previous season.
From Week 10 of the 2025 regular season, the Jaguars went undefeated with an 8-0 record. During this stretch, the team recorded the most points scored and the fewest points allowed in the league, outscoring opponents by a margin of 153 points. This 51-point lead over the next-best team suggests a high level of operational efficiency that head coach Liam Coen aims to replicate across a full season.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who finished fifth in MVP voting and fifth in the league with 29 touchdown passes, is focused on incremental progress rather than immediate parity with elite franchises. Earning $55 million a year, Lawrence has acknowledged the pressure associated with his status as a former No. 1 overall pick, emphasising the need for consistent execution to justify his contract.
Offensive coordinator Grant Udinski has framed the team’s approach as one of fundamental consistency. He noted that progress is rarely linear, requiring the team to treat basic techniques and reads as critical components rather than established habits.
