Israeli-Palestinian author duo: ‘We must break the cycle of violence’
Co-authors Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon discuss breaking the cycle of violence in new publication

Palestinian author Aziz Abu Sarah and Israeli writer Maoz Inon have co-authored a new book titled “The Future of Peace: A Shared Journey Across the Holy Land”, which is also being released in French under the title “La Paix est notre Avenir”. The publication emerges from a collaboration between two men who reached out to each other following significant personal losses during the ongoing conflict in the region.

Abu Sarah, who is Palestinian, lost his brother to the Israeli military, while Inon, an Israeli national, lost his parents to Hamas in October 2023. Their respective tragedies prompted them to connect, leading to the development of the book which aims to offer a message of hope and discuss the necessity of breaking the cycle of violence.

The authors spoke to the France 24 International programme Perspective regarding their work and the themes explored within the text. During the interview, they emphasised the importance of moving beyond the immediate tragedies to focus on a shared future across the Holy Land.

The French edition of the book, “La Paix est notre Avenir”, is currently being launched, extending the reach of their joint narrative to Francophone audiences. The project represents a direct response to the personal and communal grief experienced by both writers, seeking to channel that loss into a constructive dialogue on peace.

The collaboration highlights a rare instance of cross-community engagement driven by shared bereavement. By addressing the specific circumstances of their losses, the authors aim to provide a framework for understanding the human cost of the conflict and the potential for reconciliation.

The book serves as a tangible outcome of their dialogue, offering readers a perspective grounded in personal experience rather than abstract political theory. It reflects a commitment to addressing the root causes of violence through the lens of individual loss and the desire for a stable future.

As the book gains traction in multiple languages, it underscores the ongoing efforts by individuals affected by the conflict to promote peace. The authors’ message remains focused on the urgent need to halt the cycle of violence and build a shared path forward for all communities involved.
