Phoenix Suns majority owner Mat Ishbia says he is buying an additional 14 per cent of the franchise, according to Yahoo Sports, which cited Hoops Hype reporter Kellan Olson.

The report does not identify the seller, disclose a price or say when the purchase will close. It also does not specify what Ishbia’s ownership share would be after the transaction.

Ishbia said a situation involving UWM, which he described as widely reported last month, had “zero” effect on the Suns.

The report says UWM had a “bad quarter” and quotes Ishbia as saying people “like to create stories out of thin air”. It provides no further detail about the situation.

The purchase is presented as Ishbia’s stated intention; the supplied report does not confirm that it has been completed.
