Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz has indicated that senior tight end Addison Ostrenga is on track to be fully healed from his season-ending Achilles injury by June. The announcement was made during the Polk County I-Club event, where Ferentz described the timeline as the primary target for the redshirt senior's recovery.
While Ostrenga has not yet participated with the team since sustaining the injury in the 2025 season opener, his independent rehabilitation efforts are progressing according to plan. The coach noted that the player has been engaging in running and cutting drills, performing actions that are considered highly encouraging for a return to full activity.
Ferentz stated that the expectation is for Ostrenga to be doing everything like the rest of the players when the summer program begins. This development suggests the Hawkeyes are optimistic about securing the services of the 6-foot-4, 248-pound tight end from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, for the upcoming season.
Ostrenga, who was a three-star signee and ranked as the No. 11 player out of Wisconsin in the 2022 class, has been a consistent presence at the position for several years. His career statistics include 48 receptions for 320 yards and three touchdowns, a performance record that was capped by the injury in the 2025 opener.
Looking ahead to the 2026 campaign, the senior is projected to form a key duo at tight end alongside teammate DJ Vonnahme. Vonnahme, an in-state recruit who caught 29 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns last season, is expected to partner with Ostrenga to create one of the Big Ten's better tight end combinations.
Despite the encouraging update regarding the summer program, there is no official confirmation that Ostrenga will be cleared to play in the 2026 season opener.
