Instapaper Overhauls Platform With New Layout and AI Voice Expansion
The updated web interface features a three-column design for wide displays, while the AI voice reading function extends to Android devices in the latest release.
Instapaper has launched a significant software update, introducing a new three-column web layout, enhanced customisation options including new fonts, and the expansion of its AI voice reading feature to Android devices. The release marks the second full code rewrite since the service’s 2008 launch, according to reporting by WIRED.
The web application revamp is designed to keep content in view on wide displays. New multi-select capabilities allow users to select all articles in a specific list or use Shift+Click to select a range of articles in their queue. The interface also includes visible keyboard shortcuts that appear next to menus when users begin interacting with them.
On iOS, the application has received a Liquid Glass refresh with improvements to section counts, sorting, and a wider choice of appearance options. The service remains available on the web, Android, and iOS, reflowing web articles into a distraction-free format without ads or menus.
The AI voice reading feature, previously available on iOS, has been expanded to Android devices. Premium users can have articles read aloud via the top-right menu when a saved item is open. This functionality allows users to consume content while driving, walking, or completing other tasks.
Users can customise font style, size, spacing, and background colour. The app offers reading time estimates, text summaries, and organisation via folders and tags. A free tier allows unlimited article storage, while a premium package costs $6 per month or $60 per year, removing ads and adding features like search, Kindle support, and AI voice reading.
