Infantino confirms Trump to present World Cup trophy at MetLife Stadium
Gianni Infantino tells Fox News that Donald Trump will attend the final and hand over the trophy, following a previous appearance at the Club World Cup final at the same venue.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 World Cup final on 19 July and participate in the trophy presentation ceremony. The announcement was made during an interview with Fox News, where Infantino outlined plans for the event at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Infantino stated that he and the US President would be “together all the time” during the tournament, adding that they would jointly hand the trophy to the winner. When asked to clarify the nature of their involvement in the final ceremony, the FIFA president reiterated that they would present the award together.
The 2026 World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, commenced on 11 June. While Infantino has been attending up to two matches per day to maximise his presence at the tournament, Trump has not yet attended any matches in the current competition.
This planned appearance follows Trump’s participation in the trophy presentation at last year’s Club World Cup final, which was also held at MetLife Stadium. During that event, Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0. Trump remained on stage as the English club lifted the trophy, and reports from The Athletic indicated that the trophy was later seen in the Oval Office, with Chelsea reportedly receiving a replica.
The joint presentation at the World Cup final marks a significant escalation in the US President’s direct involvement with the tournament’s official ceremonies. The final is scheduled to take place at MetLife Stadium, where the two leaders are expected to appear together for the conclusion of the competition.
