Manchester United are increasing their interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson and West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, according to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas. The move comes as the club prepares for the impending departure of Casemiro, whose final home fixture is scheduled for the upcoming Sunday against Nottingham Forest.
The renewed focus on Ederson follows a stalled transfer process with Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club was unwilling to meet the Brazilian’s £39 million price tag when personal terms were initially agreed in March. Atletico have since shifted their attention to Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, a development that may clear the path for Manchester United to pursue the 26-year-old, whose contract with Atalanta expires next summer.
Simultaneously, United are monitoring the situation at West Ham United, where 21-year-old Mateus Fernandes is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford. The Portuguese international joined the club only eight months ago, but West Ham are currently battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
West Ham have two fixtures remaining to determine their survival, with hopes pinned on favourable results from Tottenham Hotspur’s final matches against Chelsea and Everton. If the club retains its top-flight status, they are expected to demand a higher transfer fee for Fernandes.
