Hyogo police probe suspected homicide after mother and daughter found dead
Investigators are treating the deaths of two family members as a suspected homicide following the discovery of stab wounds to the neck, with no prior threats reported to authorities.

Police in Hyogo Prefecture have launched a formal investigation into the deaths of a mother and daughter, who were discovered bleeding to death inside a private residence in Tatsuno City on 19 May. Authorities are currently treating the incident as a suspected homicide, with detailed examinations of the remains and the crime scene underway to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the fatalities.
According to interviews with investigation sources cited by NHK News Japan, both victims sustained fatal stab wounds to the neck. The discovery of the bodies triggered an immediate response from local law enforcement, who have since expanded their inquiry to determine the motive and identify any potential suspects. The identities of the victims, including their names and ages, have not yet been released to the public.
A preliminary scene investigation at the residence revealed no signs of broken window glass, suggesting that the entry method, if external, did not involve the destruction of the property’s exterior barriers. Investigators are continuing to analyse the physical evidence at the site to reconstruct the timeline of events leading up to the discovery of the bodies.
Police reported that they had not received any prior reports of threats or concerns from the family regarding the incident. The absence of such warnings adds to the uncertainty surrounding the case, as authorities seek to determine whether the attack was premeditated or stemmed from a sudden confrontation.
The investigation remains active, with police conducting further forensic work on 20 and 21 May. As the inquiry progresses, authorities are expected to release additional details regarding the cause of death and the status of the probe.
