Hurricanes level Eastern Conference final with Ehlers’ overtime winner
The Hurricanes’ first-season acquisition Nikolaj Ehlers netted the decisive goal at 3:29 of the extra period, securing a 3-2 victory at the Lenovo Center and shifting the series to Montreal.

The Carolina Hurricanes have levelled their Eastern Conference final series against the Montreal Canadiens with a 3-2 victory on Saturday night. The win at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, brings the series to one game apiece and shifts the action to Montreal for Game 3 on Monday.
Nikolaj Ehlers, in his first season with Carolina after signing from the Winnipeg Jets, was instrumental in the outcome. He scored twice, including a highlight-reel individual effort in the second period against two Montreal defenders, and the overtime winner at 3:29 of the extra period. Eric Robinson also added a goal for the Hurricanes, while Josh Anderson scored twice for Montreal.
The victory eased tension following Carolina’s uncharacteristic 6-2 loss in Game 1, which marked the Hurricanes' first defeat of the postseason. The winning sequence began with Jalen Chatfield bouncing the puck back into the neutral zone to Mark Jankowski, who redirected it to Ehlers entering the zone at full speed for a clean look at Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes.
Montreal managed to send the game to the extra session despite being limited to just 12 shots on net. The Hurricanes, who are the Eastern Conference's top seed, remain undefeated on the road this postseason with a 4-0 record.
The series now moves to Montreal, where Game 3 is scheduled for Monday. The result sets up a pivotal moment in the Eastern Conference final as both teams look to gain momentum.
