Heyzoom returns to Ascot for handicap contest

Owen Burrows has selected Heyzoom to contest the tote.co.uk Money Back 2nd Handicap at Ascot, targeting a return to winning ways after a fourth-place finish in the King George V Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting. The gelding, who has been gelded since that spring appearance, returns from a short break with a starting mark of 90. He is expected to be popular in the market, with Saffie Osborne confirmed as the rider for the contest.
The race forms part of a busy Saturday card featuring flat racing at both Ascot and Newcastle, broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing from 1.40pm. The competitive field includes Marco Botti’s Archers Bay, who carries a seven-pound penalty following a victory in a course and distance handicap on his last outing. Archers Bay impressed with his stamina over the extra distance, making him a significant threat despite the weight burden.
Other horses highlighted in the Ascot race include Ancestor and Into The Light, which are noted as each-way alternatives. The broader Ascot card also features a Class Two race at 4.35pm with 15 runners, including Ferrous and American Gulf, while the 4.00pm race is headlined by Orion’s Belt and Tryst.
At Newcastle, the focus shifts to the Mini Golf At High Gosforth Park Fillies’ Handicap, where Dark Angel Light makes his debut for new trainer Julie Camacho. The three-year-old, a winner of a Doncaster novice for Jack Channon, starts life in handicaps off an opening mark of 75. Lady Kodiac, the topweight in the race, has shown her best form on the all-weather and must be considered if she can repeat her Newmarket second from May.
The Newcastle programme also includes novice races at 5.20pm and 5.47pm, with Geometry and Crystal Dark declared in the latter. The day’s racing extends to the United States, where the Kentucky Turf Cup takes place at Kentucky Downs and the Grade One Spinaway Stakes is run at Saratoga.
