Hamlin capitalises on Reddick crash to tighten NASCAR Cup Series standings
Denny Hamlin’s victory at the FireKeepers Casino 400 significantly reduces the gap to Reddick, while Bubba Wallace secures a crucial third-place finish.

Denny Hamlin has secured his second NASCAR Cup Series victory in as many weeks, winning the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on June 7. The result has significantly altered the championship landscape, cutting well into points leader Tyler Reddick’s advantage following a chaotic race at the two-mile track.
Hamlin’s path to the front row was obstructed by regulatory issues, forcing him to start from the rear of the grid due to unapproved adjustments. Despite the disadvantage, he navigated the field to take the win, avoiding the on-track carnage that characterised an unusually wild event.
The victory dealt a substantial blow to Reddick’s championship hopes. The points leader’s race ended prematurely on lap 82 after a crash, resulting in a 35th-place finish. This marks Reddick’s first Did Not Finish (DNF) of the 2026 season, a notable lapse in consistency for the series frontrunner.
Bubba Wallace also benefited from the race’s outcome, securing third place. The finish provided a significant boost to his points total, alleviating pressure following a difficult period in May that included a DNF at Nashville the previous weekend.
The standings update confirms that the top 16 drivers have now secured their spots in the Chase following the Daytona summer race. Reddick remains at the summit with 669 points, holding a lead of 340 points over the 17th-place driver, though the margin has been notably compressed by Hamlin’s performance.
