Guardiola opted to rotate six players for the match against Palace, a decision he attributed to the need to manage squad energy levels ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final. The manager noted that while Chelsea have been training at home all week, City face the logistical challenge of travelling to London, which he suggested could induce additional fatigue compared to their opponents.
Despite the rotation, the result was decisive. Goals were recorded by Antoine Semenyo, Omar Marmoush, and Savinho, securing a comfortable margin against a Palace side Guardiola described as one that consistently creates problems. The manager expressed full confidence in the squad’s energy levels, noting that the team had delivered strong performances in consecutive matches.
Phil Foden was highlighted by Guardiola for his creative influence, having started the match and provided assists for the first two goals. The manager praised Foden’s ability to operate in small spaces, attributing his impact to innate qualities such as spark, vision, and talent rather than tactical instruction alone.
Looking ahead, Guardiola cautioned against premature celebration, emphasising the difficulty of the upcoming opponents.
