Greenberg lauds Golic’s return to ESPN Radio as new morning show set to debut
Mike Greenberg calls Mike Golic the “most important person” in radio history as the network prepares to launch The Golics on August 3.

Mike Greenberg has publicly endorsed Mike Golic’s return to ESPN Radio, describing the move as “terrific” and characterising Golic as the “most important person in the history of the radio network.” The comments mark a significant shift in tone between the two former partners, who co-hosted Mike & Mike for 18 years before their partnership ended in acrimony.
Speaking in an interview with Jake Asman on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN New York, Greenberg offered high praise for Golic’s impending return. He stated that upon hearing of Golic’s comeback, he told him, “You’re the most important person in the history of the radio network,” noting Golic’s presence at the network both before and after Greenberg’s own tenure.
The announcement aligns with the debut of The Golics, a new morning show hosted by Mike Golic and his son, Mike Golic Jr. The programme is scheduled to air from 10 a.m. to noon ET on August 3 on ESPN Radio and the ESPN App, with episodes made available on major podcast platforms following each live broadcast.
Greenberg described the pairing of Golic and his son as “perfect,” suggesting a mended professional relationship. This sentiment echoes recent comments from Golic to Barrett Media, where he stated he is “open to working with Greeny again in the future” and added that one should “never say never.”
The reconciliation follows a period of strained relations following the abrupt end of Mike & Mike. ESPN management had moved Greenberg to television to launch a morning show that became Get Up, a decision that blindsided Golic. Golic subsequently hosted a show with Trey Wingo until July 2020, ending his 22-year stint at the network.
While a future on-air reunion remains unconfirmed, the mutual public support indicates a thaw in relations. The Golics’ launch represents a new chapter for the network, built on the foundation of a partnership that defined sports radio for nearly two decades.
