Google is offering college students a year of its AI Pro plan for free

Google has launched a promotional campaign targeting the higher education sector, offering eligible US college students a complimentary one-year subscription to its AI Pro plan. The service, which typically carries an annual fee of $200 or a monthly cost of $20, is designed to provide enhanced access to the company’s artificial intelligence tools. While the primary objective appears to be increasing engagement with the Gemini platform, the offer includes substantial non-AI benefits for subscribers.

The AI Pro tier grants users quadruple the standard usage limits for Gemini, along with access to the Spark agentic platform. The subscription also integrates Gemini capabilities directly into Workspace applications, including Gmail and Docs. These features are part of a broader strategy to embed AI tools into daily productivity workflows for students.

Beyond the AI components, the US student offer includes 5TB of cloud storage and a subscription to Google Health Premium. The health service integrates with Fitbit devices and other health trackers, adding a wellness dimension to the digital bundle. For those seeking additional media access, Google is also offering a discounted bundle that combines AI Pro with YouTube Premium for $9 per month.

Students located outside the United States are offered a different tier of benefits. The company is providing a free year of the Google AI Plus plan, an entry-level subscription that normally costs $5 per month. This plan includes 400GB of cloud storage, access to Gemini Omni, and twice the standard Gemini usage limits.

A key condition of the promotion is that it auto-renews at the full price after the initial free year. Users are advised to manually cancel the subscription before the renewal date to avoid unexpected charges. This is a standard practice for such promotional offers but requires active management from the subscriber.

The move follows previous deployments of a Gemini student hub and ongoing integrations of Deep Research capabilities into Gemini Live. These updates allow users to request complex research reports and discuss results in real-time, further expanding the utility of the AI tools available to the student demographic.
