Google Gemini is getting a dedicated student hub
Technology

Google has launched a dedicated student hub within its Gemini platform, timed to coincide with the back-to-school season. The new feature serves as a central repository for academic tasks, allowing users to collect research in study notebooks, create flashcards, and undertake practice quizzes. This move expands Google’s existing suite of AI study tools, which previously included the ability to generate study documents from uploaded files.

The update includes significant enhancements to the study notebook functionality, now supporting the inclusion of graphs and images. A key addition is the ability for Gemini to automatically sync test dates and deadlines from course syllabi to Google Calendar, streamlining the organisation of academic schedules.

Google is also integrating Deep Research capabilities into Gemini Live. This allows users to request complex research reports and discuss the results in real-time. If report generation takes time, users can close the chat or lock their phone screen, with Gemini notifying them once the document is ready.

In the coming weeks, a new Google Lens feature will roll out in the mobile app. This tool enables students to photograph worksheets or study materials to receive explanations, assistance with complicated concepts, or coaching on identified errors.

Eligible students in the United States can access one year of the Google AI Pro subscription for free. This tier includes 5TB of storage, Google Health Premium, higher usage limits for Gemini, and cross-app access.

Students outside the US will be offered the Google AI Plus subscription. This plan provides 400GB of storage and lower Gemini usage limits compared to the Pro tier.
