Google criticised over YouTube advert flagged as deceptive
An Atomic14 author says Google rejected two complaints about an iOS-style “Storage Full” advert, while Gemini assessed the creative as misleading.
Google is facing criticism over an advert shown in the YouTube app that allegedly mimicked an iOS “Storage Full” system alert.
The author of an Atomic14 article published on 13 September said they accidentally clicked the advert after being misled by its design. They said they reported it twice and received the same response from Google: the advert did not breach its policies.
The author also said multiple other people reported the advert and received similar replies. Google’s advertising policies prohibit certain content and practices it considers harmful to users and the wider online ecosystem.
According to the account, Google’s Gemini model assessed the creative as “Misleading Ad Design” under misrepresentation. It recommended immediate disapproval, a policy warning for the advertiser and possible account suspension if similar violations were repeated.
The account does not establish whether the advert was later removed, who created it or whether Google’s formal review system considered Gemini’s assessment. It argues that automated tools could supplement human advert-review processes, while noting that review limitations may explain how the advert remained approved.
