Glasner targets quality over quantity as Forest pursue two final signings

Nottingham Forest are actively pursuing two or three new signings as the transfer window draws to a close, with manager Oliver Glasner emphasising a strategy of quality over quantity. Speaking after the club’s recent home defeat to Leeds United, Glasner stated that the club is working hard to finalise deals, though he does not expect any new arrivals for the upcoming Carabao Cup fixture on Tuesday.

The club’s primary target is Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, a Sweden international who is currently described as likely to remain in north London. Glasner noted that moving with precision in the current market takes more time, a process that contrasts with the previous summer when five of Forest’s signings were completed in the final 12 days of the window, including winger Dilane Bakwa on deadline day.

Despite the recent setback against Leeds, Glasner framed the loss as valuable feedback on how the squad handles pressure. He indicated that the team is not burying its heads in the sand, but rather focusing on the necessary steps to recover and build upon the existing quality of players such as Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Leeds United side that defeated Forest is led by Daniel Farke, who is the third-longest serving Premier League manager after joining the club in July 2023. Leeds finished 14th last season and invested approximately £80 million in new players this summer, a level of investment that Glasner suggests offers a model for sustainable building under a consistent head coach.

Nottingham Forest, who reached the Europa League semi-finals last season, aim to return to European competition. They concluded their pre-season preparations with a victory against Brest on 16 August, providing a positive note before the competitive campaign began.

Glasner expects two new players in different positions to join the squad soon, reinforcing the club’s depth as it navigates the early stages of the 2026-27 season. The manager’s comments highlight a governance approach focused on long-term stability rather than immediate, high-volume recruitment.
