Giants release longest-serving player Darius Slayton
The wide receiver leaves New York as a free agent after seven seasons, with ESPN reporting the move creates just over $3 million in salary-cap space.
The New York Giants have released wide receiver Darius Slayton, ending the seven-season tenure of the club’s longest-serving player.
Slayton, 29, made 296 catches for 4,435 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns for New York. He recorded at least 500 receiving yards in six seasons and led the Giants in receiving in 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
ESPN reported that Slayton was due $13 million this season and that his release creates just over $3 million in salary-cap space. He is now a free agent and, as a vested veteran, is not subject to waivers.
The move follows changes to New York’s receiving group under new coach John Harbaugh. The Giants added Darnell Mooney and Odell Beckham Jr., while Malik Nabers was targeting a return from a knee injury. ESPN reported that Slayton had been out of favour after undergoing core muscle surgery and that the club had been open to moving him during final cuts.
Slayton said on X that he was grateful for his seven years with New York and excited for what comes next. His next team and the terms of any future contract remain unknown.
